Terms of Service

These are the rules for using MatchUp. They cover your account, how matches and ratings work, what happens with tournament money, how you are expected to behave, and where our responsibility ends.

Effective 2026-09-19 · Version tos-v1.0

The short version

  • Play fair, record honest scores, and treat other players decently.
  • We are not a payment processor. Entry fees move by bank transfer between you and the organizer’s designated account; we verify the proof you upload.
  • Sport is physical and carries risk. You play at your own risk, and venues are run by their operators, not by us.
  • Ratings and results are ours to compute and, where necessary, correct.
  • You can leave at any time and delete your account.

Accepting these terms

MatchUp is operated by MATCHUP TECHNOLOGIES SDN. BHD. By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Who may use MatchUp

You declare an age band when you sign up. If you are under 18, your account requires a guardian’s recorded approval before it becomes active, and stays limited until that approval is given. A guardian may withdraw approval at any time.

Accounts declared under 13 have no social features — no messaging, no connections, no photo upload, no free-text profile.

Your account is yours alone. Keep your password private, give accurate information, and do not impersonate anyone. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Matches, ratings and disputes

Match results are recorded in the app and confirmed by the players involved. Some match types require both players to be physically present, which we check using GPS proximity at the time the result is recorded.

Ratings, rankings, experience and trust scores are calculated by us from your results. They are our assessment, not a statement of fact about your ability, and we may recalculate or correct them — including to reverse the effect of a result later found to be false.

If you disagree with a recorded result you may raise a dispute within the window shown in the app and submit evidence. An administrator reviews it and decides. That decision is final within the app.

Deliberately recording false results, colluding to manipulate ratings, or entering matches that did not take place may cost you your ratings, your results, or your account.

Tournaments, events and clubs

Apart from the featured events and tournaments MatchUp runs itself, tournaments and events are created and run by clubs and organizers, not by us. The organizer sets the format, schedule, venue, entry fee and rules, and is responsible for actually running the event.

We provide the platform: registration, seeding, brackets, scoring and standings. We are not a party to the arrangement between you and an organizer, and we do not guarantee that an event will take place, run on time, or be run well.

Contests, tournaments and prizes

Official rules. Each tournament or event has its own rules, set by its organizer and shown on that event’s page in the app: the format, who may enter, the schedule, any entry fee, and any prize and how it is awarded. Those are the official rules for that event, and they apply together with these terms. Read them before you enter.

Who may enter. You need a registered MatchUp account to enter. If you are under 18, you can enter only once a guardian has approved your account. An organizer may also limit an event to certain ages.

Prizes. Where an event offers a prize, its organizer states the prize on the event page and is responsible for awarding it. That is a club or player for events they run, and MatchUp for events MatchUp runs itself. Prizes are awarded offline, at or after the event. Nothing is paid out through the app, and the app holds no balance or winnings for you. A prize won by a player under 18 is handled by their guardian.

Apple is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, any contest, tournament or prize on MatchUp. Google is not a sponsor of, and is not involved in, any contest, tournament or prize on MatchUp.

Money

We are not a payment processor and we hold no card details. Where a fee applies, you transfer it by ordinary bank transfer to the account shown in the app, then upload a proof of transfer. A MatchUp administrator reviews that proof and approves or rejects it. Uploading proof holds your place until it is reviewed.

Because the transfer happens at your bank, the transaction is between you and the receiving account. We record its status and act on the proof; we do not move the money.

If you are 13 to 17, you can pay an entry fee yourself, in the same way as anyone else, once a guardian has approved your account. An account under 13 cannot upload a proof of payment; a fee for a player under 13 is paid by their guardian outside the app.

There is no in-app purchase at launch. Every account is granted full access, so there is nothing to buy inside the app. If that changes, we will say so before it does.

Refunds and cancellations

Entry fees are set and collected under the organizer’s terms, so refunds for a cancelled, postponed or abandoned event are the organizer’s responsibility. Ask them first. If an organizer does not deal with you fairly, tell us and we will look into it, including removing an organizer from the platform.

If we reject a payment proof, no place is held and nothing is owed. If we take a payment in error, we will correct it.

Your content

You keep ownership of everything you post — your photos, messages, club posts and dispute evidence. You give us permission to store, display and transmit it as needed to operate the service, and to show it to the people you intend it for. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we must keep something for the reasons set out in the Privacy Policy.

Only post content you have the right to post.

How you must behave

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, bully or abuse anyone, on or off the court.
  • Post sexual, violent, hateful or illegal content.
  • Contact a junior player inappropriately, or attempt to bypass the protections on junior accounts.
  • Falsify results, ratings, identities or payment proofs.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, overload or attack the service.
  • Use the service to advertise or solicit without our permission.

You can report and block other players in the app. We review reports and may warn, restrict, suspend or remove accounts. We act faster and more severely where the safety of a junior player is involved.

Sport carries risk

Playing sport can injure you. You take part at your own risk. We do not vet players, supervise matches, inspect venues, or verify that anyone is fit to play. Decide for yourself whether a match, an opponent or a venue is safe, and get medical advice if you need it.

Meeting someone from the app means meeting a stranger. Use ordinary judgement: play in public venues, tell someone where you are going, and stop if you feel unsafe.

Venues are operated by their owners. We do not control them and are not responsible for their condition, safety or availability.

Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and the service may be unavailable at times for maintenance or reasons outside our control. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Ending your account

You may stop using MatchUp and delete your account at any time, in the app or through our account-deletion page.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other players at risk, or is used unlawfully. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond, but we may act immediately where someone’s safety is at stake.

Our responsibility to you

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we exclude implied warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data, or for the conduct of other users, organizers or venues.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction over any dispute — without affecting any right you have to bring a claim where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the effective date and tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use MatchUp after that means you accept the change.
